linear algebra - Eigenvalues of symmetric matix

Well for a symmetric matrix ($A^T = A$), is there an easy algorithm to get the eigenvalues by hand?

Especially for moderate sized matrices like 6*6 (where calculating/solving the determinant becomes infeasible).
